Yes to Dumbledore, Qui-Gon, and Padme. Also add Anakin to that.

True - Anakin's death was necessary as well.

Didn't think of it because the story ended basically right after he died (for 30 years at least).

I'm always happy to come across people who didn't give up on Death Note after L died. I really don't think L and Light could have kept playing that game for much longer.

I like the story just as much after L died as I did before.

Now, granted, I only watched the anime up to that part (episode 25). But I read the entire manga series.

I think the anime condensing the second arc really hurt it but it touched on a lot of things I was really interested in -- such as the broader implications of Kira (for governments and society), what it does to Light's family, and Light slowly losing it himself.

Eh. I'm torn. It was a VERY well done death scene because it was so shocking in that it happened before the manga was nearing a close, and seeing Light without L was interesting, too.

But I just don't think it ever made up for losing the dynamic between L and Light. Once that was gone, the quality dwindled and it felt forced and even a bit childish to me.
