Re: Does anyone have experience hiring psychiatrists?

Schedule a visit to your primary care practitioner, by yourself. Usually you'll be able to find out if the insurance covers mental health care through the receptionists. If that's the case, your PCP should be able to refer you to a psychiatrist with just a brief description of your issues.

Even if you're determined to pay for the care on your own often a referral is necessary for psychiatric care (depending on your local medical system).

Either way, talk to your PCP.
