POC takes me aback, even with familiarity of it as a term. It'll never not be "racist sounding" in my head.
Breeding out the colour is probably why it irks me so lot actually, it rings similar to that.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-13 02:17 am (UTC)(link)I think I remember reading (history class??) about how they had all these different names for the varying "degrees" of coloured-ness and it had huge implications for how people were treated. Like if you were a shade darker or had a relative on your mother's side or something it meant you were basically a live-in slave for some white family in Melbourne.
It was the creepiest thing I've ever read.

Hence why we got white aboriginals. Non aboriginal folks do not get to dictate who is and isn't aboriginal because it's family and community not your skin colour >:(

all these butthurt white guys covered in tattoos. i was just looking at them and thinking: "these are the people who start lynchings."
