ARK: Survival Evolved is an early access game in alpha that was released a week ago. A major optimisation update/content update came out today.
It runs alright for me BUT it takes an initial 30 minutes to load up a server and about 5-10 minutes for any server switches as long as I don't quite the whole game. It has issues, it's an early access alpha but holy shit the content.
Game is a survival game. it is important to note that when you are offline your character/stuff is still live IN GAME. it is very important to either build a good base or be very good at hiding. You can die from the weather too, or random passing by dinosaurs. I've been lucky 3 days now, I found a good hiding spot but i'm worried someone will find it before i make it properly defendable. you must put food on your dinos or they can starve but i haven't noticed an issue. haven't fed Didi in 3 rl days and she's still kicking around glitched in her rock.
you keep your lvl and pets when you die, but lose all your items. You gotta navigate back to where you died in <10 minutes to pick up your items. Anyone else can come along and take them too.
Game includes:
- gathering/harvesting
- hunting
- crafting
- building
- crops YOU CAN BUILD AN IRRIGATION SYSTEM
- if it's big enough and you can tame it = you can ride it
- that includes crocodiles and pteras
- confess i'm not sure you can ride the sharks but you can tame them
- dilos are too small to ride but great guard dogs
- tribes/communities
- it's dinoscifi so later on you can build guns and c4s but the materials are a pain to gather if solo
- i'm trying to get up to grenades so i can sneak in and raid people's fortresses
- underwater exploration
- in the future will be vacuum sealed underwater bases
You can't do it YET but they will be implementing dinosaur husbandry* later down the tracks. Right now tho you can domesticate and collect eggs from dinosaurs
*i'm smug because they answered my question on husbandry
