It's actually not that unusual. Years ago there was one popular violent porn fic in my fandom that was always getting recommended. When it got taken down by the author there was a struggle amongst fandom to see if anybody saved it. I was able to find some of the chapters somehow (I don't have them anymore) and even years later people still ask me for the stuff I saved. I have no idea how they found me so I guess it was a pretty big deal. It wasn't even a popular fic writer because that was their first popular fic.

Like someone said, it's a pretty popular kink though many are ashamed to admit out loud. I'd be more surprised if a fic with kinks like emetophilia or vore got popular.

Vore involves someone being aroused by the idea of being eaten by another person. It was actually pretty popular in the Glee fandom of all things for a very brief and very bizarre period of time (aside from the fic, I also saw several pieces of fanart that involved things like Kurt having his intestines or whatever munched on by Blaine. Strange stuff, but pretty on par with that fandom)

The Glee fandom was surprisingly kinky. There also used to be a tooooon of "boy!pussy" and "were!dick" (where one of the female characters has a dick, but only for a certain period of time each month) fics too. Like, way more than I've seen in most other fandoms. There were also a few fics that had weird stuff like Kurt laying eggs or having a strange worm creature in his body eating him from the inside out. Glee fandom was a trip, man.

Ha! Wow, that's really great. I would never want to read something like a worm eating Kurt from the inside out, but that that fic exist? In Glee fandom, of all places? I love it!
