So let me get this straight: You're saying that one bad apple (or a few) DOES spoil the entire barrel?

That certianly simplifies things for you, I guess.

(Might as well ignore the irony that it's that sort of thinking that is fundamental to racism and most other 'isms.)

I don't think that, and I wouldn't say that I dislike all police officers. I'm saying that the police, in America, as an institution, have serious issues and there are many valid critiques of them. For instance the level of institutional su0port that often exists for the mind of behavior that both you and I agree is bad. If a police department overlooks and abets the bad apples, shouldn't they be open to criticism for that?

Yes, actually, since the 'good ones' never seem to come forward and *do* anything about the bad ones. So they're all tainted, as far as I'm concerned.

No, but it's really easy to fear that any given cop might be a bad apple. I don't fear for myself around cops generally, I'm white and female and while I'm working class I more or less pass for middle. But poor black guys? (and latinos, around here) I know they're subject to more scrutiny for stuff I'd get a pass for, and that sucks for them.
