idk really where do you live that cyclists are a huge problem and taking up all of the street? Do you not have bike lanes and whatnot? I cycle everywhere all the time and I'm not getting in anyone's way because ...bike lanes.

Not everywhere has bike lines. Cyclists are a huge problem in my area because there are no lanes and they insist on riding in the streets, literally in the middle of the road half the time because they're avoiding the parked cars next to the sidewalks. Traffic sometimes slows to a 5mph crawl because people are waiting for cyclists to get out of the way so they can resume their normal 40mph car travel

There's a lot of hate for cyclists here. Suburb of NYC

But, like, most of the time the law prevents you from riding on the sidewalk. So it's not like it's our fault that we're forced to ride in the street when there's no bike lane, that's the municipality being fuckheads.

Go blame them if you want to blame someone.

There are other places to bike besides the streets.

I am not talking about people biking for transport. I am talking about cyclists who do this as a hobby or a sport, unless they're going to work or the grocery store in glowing spandex

There are parks and bike trails and other things available, they simply don't use them for whatever insane reason

And yes, I am sure these people are hobbyists and not travelers. We have teams of them in matching uniforms clogging up the roads

Eh, plenty of people bike to work in spandex. I've considered it myself, but packing the change of clothes and then having to show up early for work is kind of a hassle. As for people who bike for sport, they usually have to train on roads because that's where they race.

Kinda sucks, but like I said, the municipal govt is to blame for not making bike lanes.

Do you go in teams of 3-4 people with matching spandex tops and helmets? Would you believe people bike to work that way, carrying no bags or changes of clothes, on sport bikes? I know you're trying to defend these people but they are not biking for transport

There are biking areas, biking trails, and parks in the area, they just don't use them

And I would be exactly as annoyed if some kids decided to use the street to practice basketball in because the municipal govt or school failed to provide enough space

Cyclists are allowed, it's the law, but that doesn't mean everyone has to be happy about it, as with every other law

Sure, but it's hard to understand why you would specifically be mad about someone's transportation though. Like... yeah, okay, a cycling team practicing while you're trying to get to work is a little bit irritating, but I prefer to get to work and also exercise while I'm doing it, ya know?

Plus not contributing to carbon emissions.

I'm not mad about bicycles, I'm mad specifically about hobbyist cyclists being on the road causing problems for everyone else when they could be elsewhere

If there were no other options for where to bike I'd deal with it, but there are plenty around here

On the other hand, I get mad about cyclists shitting up the woods and exposing tree roots and doing all sorts of crap and damage to ecosystems with bike trails.

I think we can just both be mad about hobbyists. They suck and are shitty.

I don't know what bike trails are like where you are, but here they're already paved so the cyclists do no damage at all

SW Ohio and there aren't really a lot of bike lanes (which are better put to use with vehicle traffic anyway.)

But if there were bike lanes it wouldn't even be a hassle, right? Get mad at the people who don't think the roads should be safe for everyone and then insist that it's still illegal to bike on the sidewalk.

You're not getting me. I want cyclists off the street and off the sidewalks. They wanna pump their little spandex shorts they can do it on (non-taxpayer funded) bike paths, preferably the kind that don't go anywhere so nobody has to see them -- and only if the land has no better use, like it's a former junkyard or something and nobody's homes are displaced by it.

Why do you hate cheap transport so much? Not everyone can afford a car.

Sure. That's why I support improving public transit nationwide. We have a situation here where some people who rely on the bus can't use it on Sundays because the bus doesn't go out that far on Sundays. That's bullshit. Improve the bus service, implement light rail and don't gimp it like NIMBYs did to the Cincinnati streetcar. Hell, implement cheap intercity high-speed rail.

I'd be okay with a few more buses and occasional light rail car.
