When you are at the front of line in traffic at a stoplight

(Anonymous) 2015-06-14 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
you should be paying close attention to the light so you can go as soon as it changes.

Also, don't text and drive. Don't pass me, get ahead of me in my lane, and then go slower than I was going. If I am driving at the speed limit or slightly above and can't get over into the other lane, don't flash your headlights at me, I'm not going to drive way faster than the limit just so you can. And, finally, learn how to merge.

I agree with most of this but if you are driving at the speed limit and someone wants to pass you, please make an effort to get into the other lane. (Why exactly can't you move over?)

Why exactly can't you move over? Because there are other cars in that lane with not enough space between them or it's closed (no joke, I've actually had someone do that). But no, if I'm going the speed limit and can't safely get over into another lane, the desire for the person behind me to speed doesn't trump my desire to drive at a safe (and legal) speed.

I hate it when people do that. It's like they pay no attention at all to the traffic around them - I keeps happening to me that there are tons of cars right in front of me and the other lane is completely filled up with cars as well and some idiots will still flash their headlights at me as if doing that would somehow make the other cars vanish into thin air.

Do you live in a super high-traffic area? Honest question because where I live there is rarely a situation where a person literally cannot get over to another lane if they want to. I assume you're at least using your turn signal to indicate that you'd like to move over? (if it were me I'd be far less annoyed if I thought they were at least trying to get over, rather than just obliviously sitting there in the passing lane going slow.)
