Yes, sort of. Not necessary to live in the same way food is, but still necessary. But there are other, non-animal things that clothes can be made out of. If you really can't afford a synthetic version, then I'd say that clothing made out of animals would be okay. But unless cost is the issue, I don't think there is any other good reason not to go with synthetic.

Couldn't you argue that it's better for the environment to use natural cold-weather defenses? Fur is extremely warm and effective, AND it's natural. Leather is biodegradable. Synthetics aren't, and eventually they wear out and aid pollution. Leather often lasts longer, too.

...except when it is -30C ++ and nothing else works.

Off course most of what you wear is wool, but if you are going to sit on the ground and such using synthetic materials will not work, animal hides will. Shoes made out of synthetic materials will not keep your feet warm or dry for long, leather shoes with wool or fur lining is a lot more effective. .

Then again non-syntetic materials are way more expensive than synthetic materials where I live, especially because it is better.
