There's a difference between 'liking' and 'relating' to a character, right?

So what does it say about me that these are the characters I relate to the most?

I can't speak to the other three, but Nick is representative of the sometimes loveable, sometimes irritating schlub inside all of us.

I'm unfamiliar with the other characters, but I think Jaune is pretty easy to relate to on some levels. He's been bullied, he has a lot of insecurities, and he often worries that he's going to crack under the pressure that's been put on him. I think a lot of people have felt the burden of at least one of those things, so it would make sense if people related to him, especially since he's been working harder to try and alleviate those problems (he stood up to Cardin, he's been training more seriously to try and keep up with everyone else in the school, he's become more confident as leader, etc). Regardless of how you feel about his character as a whole, those aren't bad things to identify with

Well, usually when you relate to characters, you don't relate to them in their entirety. I mean, when people talk about how much they "relate" to some incredibly badass cool superhero or action hero or Chosen One or supergenius, that's not the aspect they relate to (unless they're incredibly self-aggrandizing), they relate to the character's other personality traits.

So, the reverse applies too. Just because you see part of yourself in characters you don't like or admire, doesn't mean that's the sum total of you. You probably have a lot of character traits that you don't see in those characters too.

Whenever I relate to a character who behaves in ways I don't like, I use that opportunity to self-reflect and do what I can to break away from those relatable/harmful behaviors.

Then again if you just relate to Warren because you like old movies or Benson because you're the boss of a couple of slackers then you're fine, don't worry about it.

Just think about why exactly you relate so much is what I'm saying.

...what exactly are we supposed to dislike about the kid from Life Is Strange?

He's a teenage boy with a crush who Max really likes as a person despite not being attracted to him. I'm not sure what he has in common with the other characters?

Are you a nerdy teen? That's okay!

Benson is how a normal person would react to the shenanigans in Regular Show. There's nothing wrong with identifying with him.
