Well, usually when you relate to characters, you don't relate to them in their entirety. I mean, when people talk about how much they "relate" to some incredibly badass cool superhero or action hero or Chosen One or supergenius, that's not the aspect they relate to (unless they're incredibly self-aggrandizing), they relate to the character's other personality traits.

So, the reverse applies too. Just because you see part of yourself in characters you don't like or admire, doesn't mean that's the sum total of you. You probably have a lot of character traits that you don't see in those characters too.
