I'm not a big fan of tragedy. In the Second Age, I like to focus on Celebrimbor's friendship (or epic love, as you like) to Narvi. I am also intrigued by the logistics of Eregion - about the other craftsmen and Celebrimbor's relationship with them. And all the other things they created.

I do think the most compelling part of his story with Sauron is the way he withheld the location of the three rings, and how horrible it was for Sauron to use his body as a banner. It was heroic but terrible and awful to think about. If I ever wrote a story about this time, I would have to continue the story into Valinor where Celebrimbor was reborn and given the opportunity to make amends and meet up with his old friends and family - something deserving of his sacrifice.
