Well, that's a writing habit that you'd probably be better off kicking anyways, whether or not you agree with that post. I used to see so many rants on writing communities about people who are always referring to characters as "the blond" or "the brunette" or "the shorter man".

Use of unecessary epithets makes for terrible writing, even without the whole race angle to add an extra soupçon of uncomfortableness.

I backbutton out of fic that overuses epithets (which is ~99% of fic that uses epithets).

And honestly, if you're aware of it, it's a pretty easy fix.
