Oh, I've read the Steve/Tony divorce series. I thought it was sort of stupid, actually, especially the kid!Peter.

I guess I just identified with Steve so much in that fic.

The part where Steve and Peter fight because Peter doesn't want to live with him for the summer...man, I remember my stomach just being in complete knots reading through that because I knew exactly how he felt.

I can only read darkfic if it is really short. Here are two of my favorites.

There Goes (The Neighborhood) (Star Trek:AOS) http://archiveofourown.org/works/72924 It's a virus. Or something.

Antigonish (Sherlock) http://archiveofourown.org/series/48546 John met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. He wished and wished he'd go away.

Hands down the Bone trilogy by apokteino. http://destielfanfic.com/post/30582020973/bone-trilogy

It's a Supernatural AU with a Dean/Castiel pairing, though full knowledge of the series probably isn't necessary. In an apocalyptic future, angels and humans are at war. Dean tortures his prisoner of war, Castiel, with the intent to give him Stockholm syndrome.

This is dark as fuck with both characters morally grey. The writing is crisp and intense.

I couldn't list all my favorite darkfics. There's just TOO MANY.

However, I can pinpoint the single most disturbing darkfic I've ever read. It was a Starsky and Hutch fanfic, "Diamond Dog" by Ionnia: http://archive.is/Zd3CT

There were a bunch of old Harry Potter ones that I lost the links for because I downloaded them.

One Piece of Parchment: The most depressing thing ever. Voldemort kills everyone including Hedwig and tortures Harry and it is horrible in the best ways possible. This thing actually made me cry. Still my go-to example of an angsty darkfic.

I'm not a fan of "what if this good character was evil?" fics, but I make an exception for The Value of Strength by Margo Kim. Maybe because it's Steve Rogers, and the huge chasm between canon Steve and the Steve in the fic is wide enough for me to enjoy it. http://archiveofourown.org/works/541006

The New Crop: Big Macintosh faces Blueblood in a prizefight for money to bail out the farm. Earthy and forceful, with a lot going on behind the scenes as it slowly reveals just what happened to this world. http://www.fimfiction.net/story/222112/the-new-crop

The Many Deaths of Rainbow Dash: Thanks to a mysterious spell, Rainbow Dash will never die permanently--but the more you cheat death, the more it seeks you out . . . I'm not sure whether to call this a jaunty and humorous darkfic, a pitch-black comedy, or a very weird adventure. The Carnivore's Prayer: A lonely, dissatisfied gryphon faces the fall of his culture and ponders his alternatives. This is the capstone to the "misunderstood monster wants to be human" genre (or wants to be pony, in this case.) Amatoxin. BBC Sherlock. "Moriarty decides to poison Sherlock's favorite pet."

and Burn the Heart Out of You. Roughly the same thing: Jim seeks to destroy Sherlock by attacking the things he cares about. Burn, especially, got to me.

Unmade. MCU. Clint/Hawkeye gets revenge on Loki for the brainwashing. Short, but effective.

I like this Steve/Bucky fic a lot.
