Read any good posts about fandom in general lately?

Mine below.

Respect OC's

I agree with this one. OC's show a serious attempt at creativity and should be respected, barring Mary-Sue stupidity. And, not all OC's are Sues.

I think it really depends on the franchise and what you're doing with the characters.

Same.

This. I think having OCs work for fandoms of shows that regularly introduce new characters for an episode and have them be part of a major plot point (like crime and medical shows) but I don't care at all for them in fandoms of shows where the cast is very consistent and there's not much focus outside of it

Star Trek and Star Wars have a long-standing tradition of roleplaying characters that live "off camera" elsewhere in the universe as an example.

On one hand, yes, not all OCs are Sues and there's nothing inherently terrible about them.

On the other hand, the "have a hard time being accepted" gives me the impression the poster thinks that people have to welcome OCs with open arms, which.... no.

There's nothing wrong in wanting to have OC roleplay blogs, but it's also ok to not care about OCs in fandom and want to interact only with other canon RP blogs.

It's not a problem about originality or doing it right or not, it's just a matter of taste.
People like that poster would have more fun playing with other OC fans instead of insisting of being accepted by people who don't want to play like that.

Respect OC's what? OC's mother? OC's California? OC's style? What if the thing that OC has that we should respect?

On the theme of OCs
