Why the hell would Seinfeld be doing gigs at colleges, anyway? Most of the people there were probably born after his show went off the air, it's no wonder he can't relate to them at all.

But Seinfeld still airs like 20 times a day every day.

But do college age kids watch it? Not being snarky, I have no idea.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-18 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. They do.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-18 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. Okay, that's interesting to know. I guess I was never that into Seinfeld when it was on, I'd watch it if there's nothing else on but I can't imagine being 19 now and wanting to watch it.

Well, I mean, a lot of is syndication. In my experience, college students will watch a lot of shit that's wayyyyyy dumber than Seinfeld in syndication.

...umm, no. Not at all. At least were I went. It's old and it's not on Netflix so, I don't think I've ever met someone my age or younger who has ever watched.

Well, two separate points, I guess.

First, watching terrible syndicated daytime TV was ubiquitous at my college, including Seinfeld but also other weird-ass shows.

Second, anecdotally, most of the people I know my age have watched and liked at least some Seinfeld.

This is giving me such lovely flashbacks to my freshman year. My roommate and I were completely hooked on a couple late-night dating shows, and we watched so many weird old syndicated shows while waiting for them to come on.

What was the one with Chris Hardwick? I used to watch that one.

AYRT

I think he's hosted a couple. Are you thinking of one where the couples were on a cruise ship? If so, it was "Shipmates," and it's one of the ones we were hooked on.

That sounds sort of familiar?

I spent a loooot of time watching Golden Girls/The Nanny and Dawson's Creek.

But that's what was syndicated when I was in college. This was also the era of ALL of the reality shows, so it was "watch shows from 10-15 years ago" or "watch people eat stuff the wouldn't normally just for some money and fame."

Seinfeld never really interested me, though. I never thought he was very funny. I was a kid when his schtick was popular, though.

Speaking for all college aged kids: we prefer Friends.

it's dated
