Hey, the only thing that ages faster than comedy trends is boy bands.

He should know this. Very few comedians manage to get through their career without falling out of step and having to change their material and style.

Exactly! It's like Buddy Hackett showing up and wondering why he doesn't score big with the pre-teen crowd.

Seinfeld was a popular comic, counting his standup and his show, for like 20, 25 years.

I don't think it's fair to say he's a flash in the pan.

Nobody said he was a flash in the pan, though. 20-25 years is a good long run for a comedian, but realistically, expecting to appeal to generation after generation of audiences isn't realistic unless you're willing and able to change with the times.

Even Bob Hope changed his material for the times.

he was never funny, he just outlived all the funnier comedians of his generation.

That was, in fact, one of his very jokes.

Exactly because he is a career comic that he ought to know that material and delivery has had to change. If anything his star status and fanbase has insulated him a little, but now he's having to change or perish like any other guy on the circuit and doesn't like it.
