I remember reading something somewhere that non-brown/black eyes were considered more attractive universally because the lighter color made them look more inviting, like a more open window to the soul. It's nice to hear a rebuttal of that. A culture that simply doesn't have them isn't going to automatically react the same way as someone who is familiar with what blue eyes look like. The rare and unusual may be exotic but the completely unknown isn't necessarily so.

I think there's SOME truth to lighter eyes being more attractive universally.

The explanation I read had less to do with being "inviting" and more to do with the fact that, with light colored eyes (blue, green, hazel, light brown, grey), it's MUCH easier to discern the size of the pupil due to contrast and that lets you know someone's state of arousal.

Sucks for me, though. I have the darkest eyes of anyone I've ever met. They're so dark brown they're basically black. And I'll admit it gives me a really dead-eyed, unattractive look.

Generally speaking, looking turned on is perceived as attractive (in part this is why beady eyes are considered unattractive) and given my dating history...well...I'm gonna guess no.

My eyes are this color, too. :)

I always hated them and wished for light eyes, until my dad told me that his mother (who died when I was a baby) had the same color of eyes, and no one else in my family has eyes this dark. Then I felt special.

And this might sound weird, but IRL and with actors/celebs, I find that men having nearly-black eyes like mine make them extra attractive to me.


I still think hazel eyes are the prettiest, though. :)

It's just never something you hear complimented, though, you know? At least in media. It's usually green/blue/grey eyes that get the compliments. If it's brown eyes, they're usually light or hazel.

My friend from Singapore has light brown/hazel eyes and gets frequent compliments on them at home so I know it's not just a color issue (although I do think Western culture tends to praise green/blue more).

It's nice to know that you like them, though! :)

I think it's rarer in English-language works, the English being a rather blond race in general.

I have an aunt who was drop dead gorgeous, she had large dark brown eyes- and she would wear brown contacts to make them even darker, deep black. With they way she did her make up, it was stunning.

Maybe a makeover expert can give you tips on how to bring out the dark luster in your eyes.

Gotta say, I LOVE eyes as dark as yours, my husband has eyes like that, too. I wouldn't say people with dark, dark eyes look dead-eyed or unattractive at all! When I look into my husbands eyes I see the universe.

Yeah, pale blue eyes (like my father had) are kind of...odd-looking. Like a cold sky or a methane flame.

"Cow eyes," or any eyes with more reddish pigmentation, are really nice.

I mostly find blue/green eyes attractive because -- leaving aside things like hair dye and tattoos -- every other visible part of the body is some mix of red, yellow, and brown. Blue catches my eye because it stands out, but I can see where if it's not a color you're used to seeing on a person that standing-out would be a turnoff.

While I don't have a preference on eyes for kids/adults, I have a strong strong preference for dark eyes and hair on babies. With dark hair it's obvious why -- they look like they have hair rather than just looking bald. As for the eyes, I don't know why but I feel like the dark eyes just make the baby look 10 times cuter. The really pale blue eyes on babies just looks kind of weird to me.
