What are you reading these days, F!S? Is it good? Would you recommend it?

I don't actually have time for fun reading, but the next thing on my list to read for fun when I have the chance besides Tolkien is the Great Zoo of China which I just bought. It is supposedly Jurassic Park but with dragons, so it sounds like exactly the kind of thing I"d like.

Mary Robinette Kowal's Glamourist Histories series. It's like historical-fantasy-romance, with some adventuring too. Not my usual fare, but I've been devouring it. The second book is my favorite, though I'm only on the third out of five novels right now.

Would recommend it if you like small scale fantasy (domestic rather than epic), romance, and Jane Austen and/or other Regency period stories. The fantasy element (glamour, essentially a form of magic) is nicely thought out and woven in neatly.

I'm reading Fair Cop by Christine Nixon. It's interesting but quite heavy.

I just read "A Spy Among Friends: Kim Philby and the Great Betrayal" by Ben Macintyre (which I got for my dad as a gift but decided I needed to preview first. You know. Just to make sure he likes it.) The tone was a little too casual sometimes, but it really got to the bottom of how Philby was able to rise above suspicion for so long, and did a good job about who knew what between all the different agencies.

Homunculus, by James Blaylock

It's very, very good. But I just love James Blaylock and his whole aesthetic, and it's very Blaylock-y

I kind of went on a reading binge this past month and have read so many books.

I just finished Circus Mirandus by Cassie Beasley and I feel that it was a little younger than I expected, bu still an enjoyable read for people who enjoy Big Fish and have a whimsical imagination.

I've pretty much enjoyed all of Lauren Oliver's books, but I particularly love "Rooms" and "Before I Fall"

If you loved Neil Gaiman's "Neverwhere" I recommend V.E. Schwab's "A Darker Shade of Magic" about parallel Londons.

I recently discovered Tom Holt, whose works I'm enjoying quite a bit. Or rather, I'm quite enjoying the J.W. Wells & Co. books; I didn't much like Doughnut. They're very slow books, and the plot takes forever to show up, but the general daily lives of the characters is written funnily enough that this is a minor concern.

I just started reading Candy Freak by Steve Almond. It's breezy and funny and well written.

the most recent thing I read was the Divergent trilogy.

ehhhh. depends on what you're looking for. I feel like it tried to be THG 2 but THG did a better job.

Dresden Files specifically the fourth book Summer Knight. It's been an enjoyable series so far. I feel like this book has taken the series to a higher level though. I've enjoyed all of them but this one has been the most enjoyable.

I'm also rereading Harry Potter on the side just because. Although only a few chapters at a time. Dresden Files are keeping me pretty busy to be honest.
