who could you see in that part, then?

(Movie Snape always seemed okay to me, but I'm curious to hear a different perspective)

I don't know. Maybe Rickman could have done it if he played it differently. He was too nice, though. And too attractive (though that was a common problem). But really, he just played the character too sympathetically. Snape, in the book, is horrible, and up until book 7 we don't really see a good side to him at all. But movie!Snape was so toned down that he was completely unrecognizable.

Huh... okay. I didn't find him particularly nice OR attractive, but I suppose I mmight have been projecting waht I knew of book!Snape onto the charactyerization.

(I do admit that right up until the end I thought that Snape was secretly working for Dumbledore or the Greater Good or something: I can't recall how/where I got that impression.)

If I remember correctly (too lazy to Google), Tim Roth was originally considered for the role of Snape, and he would have been scary-good at it. Just watch Rob Roy sometime. My only real objection to Alan Rickman being cast is that he was 20+ years too old for the part (all of the Marauders were). Snape should have been in his early 30s when Harry started school, not in his mid-50s.
