She is getting in the way of you shipping? How so? I've barely noticed her in fic at all (the amount of Clint/Coulson and Clint/Natasha fic certainly hasn't decreased). She is only tagged in about 200 fics on Ao3 (Clint/Laura in only 130 of those).

Is it just that you don't like shipping people who are in a canon relationship?

I don't like the idea of a character with a spouse and children sleeping with anyone who isn't their spouse. And I don't find Laura sexy or interesting enough to want to want to read about her having sex.

There have been rumors of Clint's storyline going full Ultimate Hawkeye for Civil War.

Ugh. It was dumb enough in Ultimates.

on the one hand, that would be fucking awful and ridiculous (just like everything else in The Ultimates was)

on the other hand, I'm not gonna lie, I would love to see the fallout in fandom if Natasha just straight up murdered Clint's family. can you even imagine? the wank would be amazing

It hasn't. Hell, there is more Clint/Pietro fic out of AOU than Clint/Laura.

I don't like reading fanfics about infidelity, so I get what you mean, anon. A lot of the characters are in canon relationships and a quick "they broke up" is usually enough for me, but Whedon really complicated it with that whole "wife, kids, and farm" thing.

Side note - was anybody really disappointed that they left everything cool out about Barton and just left the "can shoot arrows REALY NICE" part of his character?

Movie Hawkeye was my first Hawkeye, so I didn't know what I was missing. But now I do, and I feel kinda cheated.

Yes. I wouldn't have minded him having a wive - he used to have one in comics after all - but them going all-out "Little House on the Prairie" on his character background was really cringeworthy.

Eh, I can always think of workarounds for the wife/kids.

For example: Laura was a one night stand that got knocked up and Clint tried to do the right thing and married her and decided to start a family with her because he figured he'd never have another chance (what with his line of work).

Laura, meanwhile, married him because she could retain some independence. And they consider each other best friends, but not really true loves. And they don't care if the other person falls in love with someone else -- they just become part of the family.

Things like that.

No, I agree, I don't know what Joss was thinking.

I have no real thoughts on Clint's family other than 'was kinda cute but out of nowhere' but I wouldn't want them killed off because we only just got introduced to them, it'd be such a waste.

So much yesssssss for your top half though, I loved seeing Clint and Nat being bros again in AoU, they're one of my favourite brOTP's in the MCU.

Yeah, but usually that only works if there are canon cracks in the relationship. Their relationship seemed pretty solid. Not to mention they have kids and one on the way so writing around that would be difficult.

I'd feel like a homewrecker trying to take away their happy peaceful farm life.

Why does it have to be death? Certainly divorce works too, right?

Well damn isn't that just a little harsh.
Is divorce or an open relationship that far out of the equation?
Why is it whenever a female character is "in the way" of ships, everyone automatically starts chanting for, "DEATH DEATH KILL HER KILL HER!!"
I mean geez, sadistic much.

Writing out female characters usually gets a negative reaction, and open relationships are no-go for a lot of people. It'll be much easier if canon just takes care of it, imo.

I actually see a lot of people prefer death to divorce since it's more tragic/romantic to be torn apart by death than to willingly cut ties with someone.

I hate to kill off characters to make a way for romance, but the healing process of losing a loved one and learning to love again is one of my favorite things to see dealt with in fiction.

I once wrote one fic for another fandom where I left it vague if it was a break-up or character death and most of the comments were begging it to have been death because seeing them break-up was somehow the less savory option.

I have no feelings about Clint or Clint/Laura at all, but pretty much as soon as she showed up, I went "Yep, they're definitely killing her in a later movie. The kids too."

There was such a lack of build up to that domestic existence that the only reason for including it is so it can be tragically taken away later. Action movies do that.

I thought that they set up wife&kids (plus Clint having to go back for one more kid on the floating bit of Sokovia) to make it look like Clint was going to be killed, then Pietro was instead, saying "Bet you didn't see that coming". It was a cheap joke but I never liked Pietro anyway, so why not.

Just pretend she doesn't exist. Most of the fandom does anyway.

I kinda understand. Whenever a character is canon married with kids it makes me feel guilty for shipping them even in AU's.
