Going by comics books I have read (instead of comic book characters in movies), I'll have to go with Maus by Art Spiegelman.

Granted, I have not read many comics (the largest/most mainstream is The Walking Dead).

I'd recommend that everyone read it. It is pretty short so you can finish it in a day but it is very engaging. Both stories told in it are harrowing, touching, and emotional. The art work is also fantastic.

I don't really have a favorite character from it.

My second choice would be Pride of Baghdad by Brian K. Vaughan. Also a great, short read. Fantastic artwork in that story as well.

Also, I think my choices are graphic novels now that I look at the wiki pages. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Maus was fantastic. I started out thinking that the whole "mice = Jewish people, cats = Nazis" thing was a bit on the nose, but it was subtle, touching, and brilliant. What I look for in a graphic novel.

In terms of graphic novels, I also really enjoyed "The Arrival" by Shaun Tan. The art work was riveting (you could stare for days at each drawing) and the story was perfect even with a lack of dialogue.

OMG. That looks like something I would LOVE! I can't do super long comics (I only read TWD because I had the compendiums). So short graphic novels are what I go for.

I would highly recommend it! I work with immigrants so seeing this story from their point of view was touching and informative.
