Cupboards above sinks, where you put dishes to dry. Apparently other people dry their dishes by hand.

I have always used dish drainers. It just sits by the sink and you put dishes in it. The water flows back to the sink.

Huh, we don't have those. Literally every house has the cupboard thing. I guess that's better than hand-drying, but I rather prefer the cupboard. It doesn't take space on the counter.

That makes me wonder how many other countries make sinks (the metal bowls inserted into the benchtop) that have a stretch of mildly corrugated space next to the sink to put a drainer on?

holy shit why don't we have that, that'd be brilliant!

tbf I air-dry my dishes on a rack in the other side of the sink. and if I had only a single-chamber sink I would have a rack on the counter. but that takes up so goddamn much room, I can see where over-the-sink shit would be highly convenient.

They were invented between 1944-45 and were inspired by the next-to-the-sink rack. It's a weird thing, they're only a thing in Finland really (some Swedish and apparently Italian homes have them). I literally have no idea why they never caught on.

I am so used to them I never knew they weren't a thing, until my Swedish friend came visit and was like "what's that?? That's so neat!" the first time I did dishes.

I have a very small kitchen, and I wouldn't be able fit a rack next to my sink.

Germany has them as well!

Oh? Neat! Welcome to efficient dish-washing. I based my info on a wikipedia article, so did not know that. :P

That looks so nice and tidy!

It is! A real time-saver too!

I've literally only seen one person ever have that.

It does some like a pretty efficient system, though.

Every house in Finland has one (or at least every one I've been to). Even the ones that have dish washers.

It's super-efficient.
