Free museums and a free zoo

I live close to Washington DC, and all the Smithsonian museums and the zoo are open to the public for free. I always forget than in other parts of the country, and other countries, that stuff is expensive.

Being not from Washington DC, it is definitely kind of trippy to visit there and get to do all the free stuff.

I just visited DC and I kept asking "this is FREE? REALLY?"

DC is one of favorite spots in the world because of that. You can spend an entire week there and not go to the same place twice. There is so much to see and do and it's all free.

It's one of the places that I suggest non-Americans go to visit if they want to see what America has to offer.

I'm in a different, smaller, US city, but that's also a thing!

I know the feeling from the perspective of someone from a country that expects to pay to enter. I ran into that at Te Papa in Wellington, New Zealand. It's their biggest museum and when I was there they had a big ANZAC exhibit on for the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landing.
