As I understand it, they identify as female, but I'm not 100% clear on the lore.

They never refer to each other as girl/woman, only gems, but they don't object at all to being called 'Steven's moms' collectively and use 'she' pronouns for all gems without making a big deal of it.

I don't think they identify as *female* technically or tumblr-ally but they definitely are coded feminine and have no problems with humans referring to them as such.

Uh, I think referring to each other as "she" without hesitation just about counts for "referring to each other as girls/women." The reason they don't do THAT is to avoid the association with humanity, cuz they're rocks.

Sorry but this "Ruby/Sapphire aren't a lesbian pairing you guys" thing is kind of getting old and obtuse. If Greg/Rose is a heterosexual pairing (it is) and if posts about how ~special~ SU is for have a young boy look up to women can get thousands of notes without an issue, then I don't see what's so exceptional about this situation. Fandom wouldn't have a problem with it anyway if both characters were visibly very feminine.

Non binary lesbians exist. She/her pronouns are not limited to women, non-binary people can use those pronouns too.

The gems do not have gender, Rebecca Sugar has stated this. Humans perceive them as female and assign she/her pronouns to them.

Non binary lesbians are a thing, that's what they are.

...So "lesbian pairing" is perfectly correct then?
