Come to my corner, where we steadfastly insist that the Compilation doesn't exist.
I mean, I'm... kind of ok with AC as a high-budget fanfic with some cool fights, and I kind of pretend Cloud has a personality in between scenes (and that scene with Zack in AC:C?? doesn't exist. Nopity nope).
I just want them to remain true to the original :

The whole compilation feels like high-budget fanfic, not only AC. Everything is more dramatized and over the top and aspects of characters are added on that weren't there in the original and then all of it is also canonized... it's tough for me to say "the comp doesn't exist" because according to the literal creators they intended all the sequel/prequel aspects to be canon all along, didn't they? So we have to assume it was retconned true or there in the original, too. So I have no idea what "true to the original" means in this context. :(

I hesitate to say this because it goes against everything I normally believe in, but I think FFVII is one of those cases where the creators did not 100% understand their own characters or why they worked so well together.
All you have to do is look at the pathetic watered-down versions of Cloud in Sephiroth that we get in say Kingdom Hearts or Dissidia to realize that somebody somewhere did not get a very important memo. If this is how they see the characters, then idk, I guess they got the original FFVII wrong in a glorious way.

For me I just hope they change as little as possible in terms of plot/dialogue, and leave it at that...

I wasfine with them in the first KH because with Squall/Leon, Yuffie and Aerith having grown up together and being slightly different I could handwave them as AU-versions of themselves.

Then the rest of the Complication happened and in KH2 everyone was suddenly in their AC outfits and nooooo X(
