Re: serious answer
(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 02:06 am (UTC)(link)Hyenas, on the other hand, are fantastic mothers. I once heard of a hyena who was having trouble giving birth, hyena births are VERY difficult, and when she finally got the cub out, it was very still. She worked with that cub and worked with it until, like people do with kittens who come out still, the cub began to breathe on its own.
I have also never seen cubs play nearly as hard as I have hyena cubs play. Like, I've seen lion cubs stalk and everything, but it's very rare that I'll see a lion doing something for the sheer joy of it, the way you'll see hyena cubs play.
Sorry, I just think hyenas get a really bad rap, because most of the time you'll see them sticking their heads out of a stinking carcass, and they're not as 'romanticized' as lions are. I absolutely adore them, and I think that everyone should give them a second look, because they're great!

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 02:55 am (UTC)(link)As I said above, whatever the actual facts may be, my reaction to them is deeply emotinoal, subjective, and extremely visceral. I literally taste bile and feel stressed when I even see pictures of them: I won't go so far to say that it's triggering for me, but it's truly unpleasant for me have to even look at pictures.
But I am sorry -- I should have left you to your hyena-enjoyment and just walked away from the computer (and this discussion) when I saw that picture, but it was a knee-jerk response which I do regret.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-21 04:14 am (UTC)(link)I get that way about pregnancy though. Ugh, that's terrifying and horrible, so I do understand entirely to irrational visceral reactions about that kind of thing! :)
