I know exactly what you mean. I don't get it. Eyes aren't noticeable, they're barely visible, and they don't flash or glint and you can't see someone's emotions just by looking at their eyes, which are fucking tiny and nobody notices them.

This bothered me so much about ten years ago that I wrote a short story called "Eyes Don't Change" about this girl with eyes that glowed brightly when she was emotional or something, and then she got her heart broken and it stopped forever, except in a few of the fourteen alternate endings. It was actually worse than it sounds. The whole thing still pisses me off though.

I once read a short science fiction story in high school about this woman who was a surgeon and got cyborg eyes so she could do surgery better and she wept and wailed about how it made her devoid of expression because eyes are the window to the soul or whatever. It really irked me. It's like, Christ, woman, use the rest of your face if you want to make an expression! You can smile, can't you?!
