DA but: several characters (her sister, her boss, Owen, that guy with the JP tshirt) criticize Claire for not being "motherly" and caring too much for her career, and Owen constantly harasses her, until she "comes around".
The heels are pretty much the less sexist thing in the film, since she keeps them after he's been an asshole to her about them

I was the anon that left that comment, so thanks for answering! Also the way female characters are treated in the film is pretty awful in general, not just the lead.

Sad to think Laura Dern was such a better role model twenty years ago.

Oh, same anon here, also the teen boy who just ogles girls in a really creepy way, and they just giggle. Ugh.

Interesting. I sort of felt the opposite way about it--that yes, people criticised her for these things, but she didn't back down, and the narrative itself didn't crap on her for that--it crapped on her re: capitalism, but not sexism as much. Like, when Owen was like "you cannot run through a forest wearing those clothes. You just...can't" she was like "fuck yes i can." And she kept the same outfit and shoes the whole time, because yeah, she can. (Though did anyone else notice that her skirt's hem got magically looser and easier to move in as the scenes went on? Super funny.)
