Not to be one of those people

(Anonymous) 2015-06-22 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Regardless of whether or not POC people can be racist against White people, "casual racism" refers specifically to situations where racism is so ingrained into a society's expectations that it is expressed in an unconscious level through speech and other everyday actions (like institutional racism)

For example "He's Asian so he has to be good at math" "You speak good English for a Mexican" "You're pretty for a Black girl." Sure people getting bullied and mistreated just for being White is bad, but White people DO NOT suffer casual racism (I am referring specifically to race relations in the US)

Sure the fandom's behavior towards the white major characters may be "racist" but it sure as hell isn't "casual racism."

I would love to agree with you, but the internetz have contaminated me. All I know is white people can't dance, can't be anything but "basic," and love Starbucks.

I never understood the whole "white people can't dance" -- have these people SEEN ballet?

Well logically there's a bit of a difference between "stage" dancing and casual dancing. For the former, people know they require a great deal of training and discipline. Casual dancing is a whole different animal that relies a lot on a person's sense of rhythm and such.

Well, and we know for a fact that white people have no rhythm due to the complete lack of white drummers and percussionists.

also white women's bodies aren't ever really "sexy", white people look a lot older than they are no matter what, etc

Actually that is one kind of racism that white people inflict on themselves. You think white people don't have cultural "rules"?

Irish people, red haired people and white Jews would like to have a word with you.
