Do you ever resent fictional characters?

(Anonymous) 2015-06-23 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I see characters (especially asshole characters) who are surrounded by friends and family and people who care about them, and I resent them. I feel as though I am not an asshole and I've never done anything horrible like them, but I don't have any friends and my foster family has washed their hands of my existence.

It feels petty and completely irrational since they are fictional, but I guess that's my only reference. Do you ever resent fictional characters, if not for these reasons, then for others?

I resent fictional characters who have amazing close friends who take care of them and who they can always count on and who would do anything for them and who they can talk to about everything -- yet they have the gall to mope and pine and act like their life is ~so incomplete~ because they haven't found their Twoo Wuv.

Like, seriously, dude/girl, I would KILL to have what you have. How can anyone possibly be so ungrateful. asdskdjlkkjhsuuegfyuhbuf. That sort of thing.

Yes. This. I have acquaintances but no really close friends. What I would give for a best friend.

More like I'm envious of them, rather than resent them.

That sounds like Sasuke.

And yes, I resent him.

Yes. My ideal fictional friendship is between two characters I loathe as individuals. They're wonderful to each other and shitty to everyone else (and sometimes to each other, but they don't seem to mind) and they absolutely do not deserve each other. I resent them not just for myself but for the characters in the same show who deserve happy relationships, but are all alone.

It makes me so angry I've cried over it.

And I considered making it a secret, but it would probably get no replies because I won't name the canon -- too specific, not many people know it, and those who do know it would know I was the OP.

Or you me, Anon, getting angry over fictional characters so much until you're driven to tears is my thing :P

The getting angry on behalf of other characters that get sidelined more than for myself, too.

Mix of envy and resent. I would give a kidney to have that kind of stability and support.

I resent the shit out of obvious Mary Sues in TV shows I otherwise like (Wesley Crusher, etc.)
