It was based on the screenplay. It's so much worse, the interactions with the college ESP "test subjects", the questions they asked the librarian, Venkman's thoughts, Louis, etc. Much younger me was taken aback. Actual movie Venkman was toned down.

It was the 80s...every movie got a novelization.

I'm surprised that Ghostbusters was worse than the movie, though...most of them toned the ickier stuff down.

Usually written by Alan Dean Foster. Movie novelizations paid his mortgage and coke bills. I assume he was on massive amounts of coke anyway, it was the 80s and everyone else in the entertainment industry was.

Hoo boy, I have that novel! At one point it mentions that Louis dreams about getting raped by Dana every night.

Are we talking rape-rape or hot, forceful sex that he enjoys and refers to as rape? Either way it's creepy but at least the latter is just bad word usage.
