Re: What fandom do you/did you dislike the most?

Any fandom that's a Flavor of the Month. I won't name any examples, because I think the definition could vary from per. I just don't like the instances where the fans get really in-your-face about them and badger you into seeing this movie/watching this show on Netflix/playing this video game. As someone who resents being pressured (or feeling that peer pressure), that's a good way to make my salt levels max out to sodium and not get me interested. The upside to FOTM fandoms is that they rarely last long after the initial surge of activity and kind of taper off into a non-annoyance not long after. Plus, there's always Tumblr Savior to lend a hand, so I can't complain too much.

Green Lantern was one that got on my nerves near the end of my involvement in it and the series. Not just the GLTAS side of things (that was a special brand of anxiety-inducing obnoxiousness, though), but the comic side of things was pretty irritating after a while. I'm glad I left it all behind (and tbh, trashing on it when given the chance to is like catharsis for me, ahaha).

Star Wars is definitely another one. But it's one of those where you have to find/carve out a niche of like-minded people if you want to have any hope of holding onto your love of the movies/franchise for any extended periods of time (or just avoid the fandom altogether). Unless you enjoy getting into internet slapfights with manchild pissbabies, then otherwise hey, go for broke.

You got that right. The Star Wars fandom overall has some serious issues that they don't want to address, and the sexism and homophobia is one of them.

The 'Old Republic' side of things is really bad in the homophobia department, despite it being an off-shoot of the BioWare fandom, which is very much pro-LGBTQ+. Aside from the fact they didn't include same-sex romances in the vanilla game, I've seen some really vile stuff in regards to the possibility that they may make some companions retroactive SSRs in the upcoming expansion (hasn't been confirmed, but let's just say the setting for it gives us hope they could be). One guy on Reddit was like "Great, SJW pandering. There needs to be a filter for that shit". (I'm like, I dunno brah, if my gay Smuggler can avoid all the women throwing themselves at his feet during the main game and held out until Theron Shan in 'Shadow of Revan', you can avoid any possible retroactive SSRs) I also vaguely remember people getting all angry about same-sex romances being added in the first expansion (I joined shortly after it hit), and it ended up being a few quick flirting options with one for guys -Imperials only, at that- specifically.

And then there's TheForce.net's ban on slash/femslash fan fiction on their site and forums, though I don't know if they've since lifted it or not. I'd imagine since Star Wars has gotten a couple LGBTQ+ characters since then (Juhani, that gay Mandalorian couple, and this one lady Moff from one of the recent stories) they'd have to, but ehhh... wouldn't put it past TFN not to.

Oh, and sexism? Yeah, I remember the row over Wookiepeedia's April Fool's joke one year, and how it was about breasts. Dunc of 'Club Jade' had the best takedown of that ever, especially in the face of the Wook's admins going "It's just a joke, relax", but it just goes to prove that for all the wonderful, amazing philanthropic work organizations like the 501st and Rebel Legion do for others... this fandom still has a very, very, very long way to go. I'm hoping the influx of new fans we'll get from the new movie might help shift things in a more positive, inclusive direction (and tbbh, I think hardcore SJW-y types might be needed to help catch the SW fandom up 10+ years in terms of attitude towards non-straight white cis males in the fandom).
