Re: I HAVE SO MANY OF THESE
(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)In regards to this, the reasons I've seen:
-Pine and Quinto are both good-looking and have great chemistry together according to some fans, which can definitely influence how people view the characters
-The films put a heavy focus on their relationship
-They feel intensely towards one another (which some people lap up whether it's positive or negative emotions). Such as: Kirk seems to be REALLY intent that Spock be his friend, Spock cries for Kirk and flips a shit when he dies, stuff like that. Whether you find it convincing or not, it's fanfic fuel for a lot of people
As for MCU!Stony, I would say (besides finding the actors attractive), that a lot of what people like about it is that their relationship is very combative, which can make for great drama. Plus they're both characters that are very much in focus and thus often have the best development of the cast. There's also the history there -- what with Tony's father having helped to create Steve -- and how much Howard clearly cared for Steve while Tony feels sorely neglected by his dad.
Re: I HAVE SO MANY OF THESE
(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)IDK, maybe it's because I'm so invested in TOS, but I can't see the relationship between reboot!Kirk and reboot!Spock as anything other than a hollow imitation of the relationship between TOS!Kirk and TOS!Spock.
With regards to MCU!Stony, all the reasons you stated are good explanations for the ship's popularity. I still don't get it, and I don't think I ever will. Once again, it's difficult for me to think about it in an unbiased way because I'm so fond of the relationship between the original 616 versions of the characters.

(Anonymous) 2015-06-24 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)Whereas everything else they do tends to fall flat.
For MCU!Stony, I'm not shipper (and I'm not familiar with 616!Stony either) but I still get why people ship them because I can see how, even though their interactions are so limited, they lend themselves well to the types of stories that people want to read/enjoy (opposites attract, drama, Steve being so good while Tony is a basically a reformed bad guy, etc.).
