I realize it's not exactly what you're asking for but--whenever I think of Steve's flaws, I remember in Winter Soldier when they're taken in and Natasha is literally bleeding out, and Steve is just sitting there wallowing in his manpain to the point that she feels like she has to comfort him.

Sam is the one who has to be like... oh hey, she's losing a lot of blood.

It doesn't have a lot of narrative consequence (and honestly with one thing and the other, I don't think it should—I don't think Natasha is the sort to go back to that), so like I said, not really what you want. But I do feel like that's a flaw, that was treated like a flaw, and it was dramatized in the movie.

Manpain? Really? If that was a woman you would not be trivializing that shit.

He just found out his brother (not by blood but by circumstance) is not only alive but some kind of brainwashed assassin.

Oh, he also found out that the government/organization he believed in is filled with Hydra, a group he thought was eradicated.

And he was attacked by the group of people (he probably considered friends) he'd been working with for years.

You're exaggerating. All of that didn't just happen in that scene. Bucky was the new piece of data that occurred right around when Natasha got shot. Then they were all put in the van where Steve proceeded to wallow and ignore the fact Natasha was losing 1-2 pints of blood. That's a dangerous amount.

Natasha was also suffering from being attacked by a group of people she probably considered her friends and been working with for years (more years than Steve), btw. More than that, she'd spent a really painful time reconstructing her identity (after brainwashing) based on the belief these were the good guys. So I actually feel more sorry for her than for Steve.

Yeah but he kind of did jump immediately into "Oh no what could I have done to prevent this?" mode there in the van when, as a leader, his priority in that moment should have been to ensure the wellbeing of his team. Like, if you feel so responsible for what happened to your last partner, maybe you should care more about the fact that your current partner is bleeding out in her seat? Wording aside, AYRT has a point. Steve has tunnel vision.

Can we stop with "manpain" already? When it's gotten to the point where it's used in regards to male characters who've been sexually abused or tortured, it's lost all meaning.

Sorry, who was sexually abused here? Or are you one of those idiots that thinks all that fandom Hydra bullshit is canon?

I'm speaking in reference to other fandoms, calm down.

Welcome to fandom; sucking the meaning out of words since the dawn of the Internet. At our current rate of consumption, by 2026, all words will have no meaning left.

DA
Jeez, I didn't know that fandom at large was actually secretly Minitrue.
Does that mean I have to start burning dictionaries or they will come for me next?
