I mostly agree with you on those, though I have different reasons.

I like Fingon/Maedhros in theory but end up apathetic about it in practice.

I dislike Turin and think he's a total ass, but I barely recall anything about him and Beleg (I haven't read Children of Hurin and it's been a while since I read The Silmarillion).

Gimli and Legolas failed to ever grab me. Their friendship failed to grab me too. I didn't even develop a liking for dwarves until The Hobbit, and the ones I like were not the ones who veered towards the type Gimli is.

I also can't see any logic in the Thranduil pairings, I really think he would never let himself feel anything for a dwarf. Like you said, two hot characters.

But my personal mental image of Kíli was influenced by fanfic before I even saw DoS, so the mess with Tauriel didn't put me off him, but I do think both characters were twisted out of all shape by it.
