I love this guy and all but recently he said that the reason why he no longer describes the food on the show is that the descriptions end up sounding repetitive. Seriously? Too fucking bad, you giant, leathery manbaby! You have your dream job: you're paid to travel around the world wherever you want and eat whatever you want. Figuring out how to describe things non-repetitively is your job as a writer! If you don't feel like doing it, then you don't deserve the millions of dollars you earn to go on vacation.

Tony Bourdain wouldn't be Tony Bourdain without the insane commitment to doing things his own way. I'd rather have Tony with his feelings about maintaining quality than have Tony describing food luxuriously.

Because I trust his taste and judgment, and because the show that he makes is really stylish and doesn't constantly insult my intelligence, which are the two things that I basically want in a travel show.

I didn't really like him, but once he started eating better after his heart issues, he got a LOT less grumpy. There's a marked difference in the old episodes and the newer ones.

His writing is great to me, honestly. There's always a rhythm in the words, and (more importantly in his case), you can hear his speaking voice through it. It find that a tough thing to consistently manage, even with skill. He also makes a stylish show, like anon said. His recent episode with Darren Aronofsky was a interesting watch (although I think Budapest is my personal favorite so far. Vilmos Zsigmond got to me).

I'm not a fan of Bourdain's recent work. It feels way too smug and some of the shows strike me as being particularly disingenuous, like when he recommends people travel to these out of the way places that are difficult and dangerous because it's sooooooo cool. Oh yeah sure, I'll vacation in Beirut even though Isis is rampaging next door and war could break out any day now. Because of course I'll have your amazing CNN contacts and enough money to pay for translators, tour guides and armed security the way you do, Tony!
