Signs you are getting too old for this s...tuff.

I ended up watching New Tricks on the tv, unironically.

New Tricks is awesome, tho.

Spoiler for New Tricks

(Anonymous) 2015-06-25 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Now there is a spoiler warning I thought I'd never have to write for F!S.

Original flavour is. Even without Jack and with Steve it is pretty good (except the backdoor pilot episode for the Glasgow spin-off that never happened, that one sucked). However, once Brian was fired/quit and Sandra got promoted, it just fell apart. There is far too little chemistry in the new team, Danny is just a full on Marty Stu, and I'm glad the next season will be the last.

Actually, technically, I suppose it wasn't original flavour that rocked. Bevan was horrible as boss. Once they replaced him with Strickland it started to rock, but the loss of Clarky hurt I think. I know the UK is a pretty white place, but having PC Clark -even as the token black guy- really rounded off the ensemble. My golden New Tricks line up would be Strickland plus Clark, plus Steve, plus the original line up.

I'm watching the series but haven't caught up with the new cast change yet and I'm not looking forward to it. :(

I missed PC Clark right away. Love Strickland. I already knew Jack was leaving but I'll miss him. Brian, too. AND DAMMIT WHO CAN REPLACE SANDRA SHE'S THE BEST.

Sandra gets replaced by a woman who can only be called "younger, more conventionally attractive, Sandra who loves jogging and has Angst[capital letter] with an Ex". Also, they start playing Gerry up as the butt monkey way too much when new!Sandra is introduced which just makes it uncomfortable to watch. No wonder Dennis Waterman said he wanted to quit too.

Major frowny face. I loved that Sandra was an older woman who wasn't a size 2 but still tough and sexy and damn good at her job.

Yeah, me too. Apparently the BBC didn't get that memo though.

This article from the Telegraph has a picture of replacement!Sandra, spoiler warnings for everything up to season 11 episode 2 in the article though.

DA

Clarkie was an utter gem. He was savvy enough to be a snarky liaison between the boys and the rest of the world, but also green enough that they could push him around and be a bad influence on him occasionally.

I want a crossover where Clark and Peter Grant from the Rivers of London books meet up and discuss the problems they have dealing with their older bosses and their old fashioned attitudes.

I loved the way they used him to explore the inherent racism in the older cast, and the way that they struggled to deal with their own problematic attitudes. It was very true to life.

I am reading this thread, and I have no idea what this New Tricks thing is. It sounds awesome though.

It's a good show. :) Basically it's a unit of retired cops headed by a Detective Inspector who solve cold cases. So you have a really awesome, tough lady at the helm and a bunch of cranky old guys.

Excuse me, but Sandra is a Detective Superintendent. That is a two ranks than a mere DI.

Today I complained about my back hurting. Yesterday I went to bed at 10. :(

Caught myself whistling the old Lovejoy theme tune yesterday.

After not being able to say hello to my office crush (seriously, my throat actually seized up a bit), my first thought was "When did I die and get sent back to the hell known as middle school?"

I've pretty much stopped liking new music entirely. It's not supposed to happen until you're 30 or so, I think.

Sometimes a band I know will release stuff and I won't hate it, but otherwise it's all just noise.

it didn't happen to me until i was quite a bit older than 30. The only song from last year I liked was Happy by Pharrell and i don't like ANY song from this year.

I think with me it's weird because mentally I sort of still feel not much older than a teenager, I guess. But it's more like...I'll be telling this story, and be like...oh my god, that was 15 years ago.
