Agreed. I was very disappointed in their casting. I'm always so surprised when people find Haldir attractive (I've seen the actor in other things, and I think he's attractive in those things but not as Haldir - he looked downright ill in one shot he was in). Elrond doesn't look anywhere near like the beautiful descendent of Luthien that he is, and Marton Csokas looks way too broad for an elf.

I actually didn't think the casting of their female elves was that great either but I've warmed to Liv (especially certain shots). I've also felt that Peter Jackson manages to shoot really attractive people in ways to make them look horrible, and I always boggle when he does that.

Recently, I've become very bothered by the fact that I can make out the stubble on Thranduil. They said it was really difficult to deal with that but surely they could've done more to get rid of that. It's super noticeable to me and really takes me out of my suspended disbelief in thinking he's an Elf. Except for the eyebrows, I did think Thranduil and Legolas were decently cast for the pretty.

I agree on Haldir. Craig Parker is gorgeous, but blonde hair does not work on him. He's amazingly hot in Legend of the Seeker and on Spartacus, but he just doesn't work for me in LOTR.

Liv looks the part even if I've never much liked her as an actress.

Thranduil I think was the best cast elf, though. He looks both gorgeous and other worldly. Legolas works pretty well too.

I disagree about Liv. Arwen's a high bar though. The most beautiful woman ever. I think Liv has some elvish qualities but there are many actresses I find to be a lot more beautiful than her. She never looked like Arwen to me. The same with Cate (though she grew on me a little in The Hobbits).

Hmmm. Liv to me is very much the unearthly beautiful that I picture for elves. I can think of other women I'd say are more beautiful but then they wouldn't quite capture the unearthly part for me.

Cate's look wasn't perfect, but I don't care because her acting in the part was spot on. I adored her.
