The critics seem to hate it and I really have no idea why. I mean it's way dated now, but it wasn't dated at the TIME, the music is awesome and Lauryn Hill is an amazing singer

Yeah, it is a bit dated but still very enjoyable imo. And oh hell yes, Lauryn Hill was amazing in it.

A+ I love Iron Giant and Wall-E too.

I like Sister Act 1 better than Sister Act 2 but they're both a lot of fun.

This reminds me that I need to watch Galaxy Quest again; I haven't seen it in ages.

I like SA1 too! But Lauryn Hill kinda tips SA2 into favorite for me

Galaxy Quest is like THE PERFECT self/fandom-aware parody that works on its own without needing to constantly depend on referential humor (like Spaceballs) - I saw it originally 10+ years ago and recently re-watched it and it's still just as relevant/good (...also, Justin Long)

I think SA 1 is my favorite because the nuns are my favorite part of the movie. (I didn't even realize that was Lauryn Hill until you just said it! She is awesome. I agree about that.)

I love all those movies but The Iron Giant holds a special place in my heart. Damn that movie for being able to use one word to get me tearing up!

Seconding Galaxy Quest. Beneath all the humor and parody, it's a well-written movie.

I like galaxy Quest a lot. idiocracy made me uncomfortable because the message seems to be "smart people should breed" and as a smart person who wants nothing to do with having kids I squirmed.

I want nothing to do with kids either! But I felt it was the opposite - not that smart people should have more kids but more than EVERYONE (smart AND stupid) shouldn't have too MANY children and/or children they can't be responsible for.

To me it wasn't that smart people needed to breed a ton, it was more like lots of them waited to have kids until they were sure they could have the best support for it (with many waiting too long) and lots of stupid people didn't care enough about what the kid's quality of life was going to be and had like twenty kids (but the point was, they should have cared) and most of the problems (as can be seen at the end and the beginning) were that the children were running amok and getting neglected (by parents who didn't care), and not getting the attention/education they needed

If anything the message seemed to be "please be able to care for the children you do choose to have"
