This is constantly happening in Halo, so a lot, but my favorites are Jorge and Kurt.

Mordin in Mass Effect 3. "Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong." Can never not tear up when I think of that scene.

Not necessarily for one character, but Snake during MGS4. Again I mention the microwave scene, because it was damn good. Raiden's involvement was also nice. The Boss in MGS3... :(

There were a few good ones in SGA...my favorite being when Rodney tries to sacrifice himself so his sister can live and John 'won't let him'.

And of course Spock in Wrath of Khan.

+1 for Mordin

I cry so hard at that part every time.

I would be more surprised if you didn't! Mordin is one of those characters I love so much that I can't imagine anyone else not loving them.

These wounds, they will not heaaaaaaaaaaaal~

It's true, but as sad as it makes me on reflection I can't help but appreciate how fucking good his character arc was, and how perfect his death turned out. (If a character has to die, this is how it should be done.)

Oh yeah I totally agree with you, like it was heart-wrenching and painful but it fit his character arc so well. As much as it makes me sad it was done very well.

I was shocked at how much I grieved for Mordin. I had no idea I felt so strongly about him until he was gone. :(

Awww. :( That's kind of sweet! (Sometimes you don't until it is too late.)

Mordin was one of my favorite ME characters so I can't say my reaction to his death was a complete shock, but...death scenes can be so tricky, and sometimes when they go wrong it's not only sad to remember because one of your favorite characters died, but because "They deserved so much better!" And I didn't feel that way about Mordin at all.

Even thinking about him now, his death was devastating...but that's precisely why I'm not against the fact that it happened; it was a perfect ending to his character arc. It was beautifully written and performed and that punch in the gut was meaningful in a super satisfying way.
