I'm the FFIX hater from the other day.

FFIV is superior. I had more fun in that game than any other entry I've played.

I felt vindicated seeing the stans trip over themselves to assure themselves that anyone who dislikes their game for any valid reason just has no taste, is wrong, and is doing it wrong.

I think FFIX is okay.

Just okay. It's not bad.

It's severely overhyped by the people who attach to it, and half of those people originally attached to it because they were anti-7 or anti-8 for whatever reason and wanted to "go back to classic RPGs" that felt less modern

Yeah. I saw people accusing me of not liking the style (joke's on them that 4 and its remake are my favorites) or being someone who loves FF7 and 8 above all else or wondering how multiple people could be hanging and shoving this down someone's throat.

I just am tired of the fans of it shoving it on me and ignoring that I didn't like it. I didn't connect to any of the characters and I just couldn't get into the story. That should be okay and be the end of the conversation when my friends try to re-rec me this game. But it never is.

Lol yep. The fact that a lot of 9 fans accuse people who don't love 9 of being 7/8 fans is telling. There are lots of other reasons to not find 9 as enjoyable as it could be that aren't due to setting or theme.

For me it was the super slow battle system and unavoidable animations but no, I must just hate classic style RPGs and want pew pew and love stories, right?

IV is also the one that gets the most releases after VII, so S-E loves it just as much, really. The day the VII remake was announced was also the day people made a joke that it would end up a secret IV remake. My pre-order bonuses from XIV are all IV-related in some way, too, although the actual expansion drops references as far back as FFI, to be fair.

I personally found it as tedious as most people seem to find IX, and I'm not up for the "harder" difficulty of the DS version, although it seems to be the one with all the added story.

We're also considered fans of an overrated, over bloated franchise by "true" JRPG fans anyway. Start playing Tales or the original SMT, you piece of FF trash! Accept Star Ocean and Wild Arms as your true saviors! /s
