Oh man. Not really related to Nostalgia Critic, but I had to drop a few Tubers who went crazy far deep into adopting the vocal inflection and intonation of the Vlogbrothers.

I felt a little bad about it, because they were female nerd bloggers who talked about things that interested me, but they just sounded so scripted and fake.

This. There are some reviewers that have a pleasant voice but most of them are YELLING and SCREAMING all the time.
Also they think is hilarious do this annoying thing where they keep repeating something over and over and over. It's makes me want to throw my computer against a wall.

Tastes generally change as we get older (though I still enjoy a classic YouTube Poop every so often, so I'd say it's also relative), but I'd say it's probably a mix of both.

I'd also like to add in the over-saturation of "screaming rabid middle-aged manchild goes on about everything negative with a slew of expletives" (hell, even the AVGN has scaled back the wild manchild stuff in recent years and he's shifted his focus more to 'James and Mike Mondays', plus being a dad to a toddler probably takes a lot out of him as it is) is a huge part in why the NC's just not the hot shit he used to be. Especially after the "uncancellation", which reeks of desperation to make back lost money from failed ventures (i.e. Demo Reel, the game show that never truly materialized).

And then there's the whole drama with Channel Awesome in general and how poorly Doug has handled it (or rather, has blithely tried to ignore it), but that's another subject altogether.

... I agree with this in principle, yet for some reason I personally can't resist binging on Zero Punctuation now and again (whether I know the game he's reviewing or not).

I'm less annoyed by Yahtzee because he actually speaks in a fairly calm tone of voice. It's his language that's aggressive, plus the fasttalking. With NC, I just want him to stop yelling.

Hehe. I'm not ashamed to admit I've watched a few episodes of the Angry Video Game Nerd. I find him to be legitimately funny sometimes, in a very 'The Aristocrats'-kind of way.

I think choosing to review whatever Doug thinks is going to net him reviews and revenue (Jurassic World, Planet Earth, Jupiter Ascending) over nostalgia has really shot himself in the foot as far as bringing NC back goes.

That... that Jurassic World review, man. What the shit was that?

I think it's because they changed, honestly. Which is fine, whatever floats their boat, but it's not the NC of 2009 or whenever.

I may be a bit resentful that they changed just as I was getting into it, though.

Haha. Around 2008-2009 was when I first was in the fandom and I fell out of it about about two years later, right before it seemingly went to shit.

Yeah idk either, I haven't been able to finish a single episode since Mamma Mia I think. I still like some reviewers I did way back when I started, so for me it's NC starting to suck. Certainly, something has changed.

The fact that a bunch of CA members got treated like shit behind the scenes some even gotand fired over stupid stuff like forgetting to answer their phones, kinda makes the whole site leave a bitter taste in my mouth.

Yeah, all the drama that goes on really kills it for me. I can't watch a single video without feeling awkward knowing what goes on behind the scenes.
It sucks because I can't even watch my old favorite videos because all the bad blood that exists now.

He was great at the time. But he's done this for too long, especially after his failed film thing. That, and the fandom was a mess and way too cliquey and full assholes.

Plus, on top of that, my favorite reviewer is no longer with us.

To be honest, I used to love his reviews and most of the other stuff on TGWTG, but after all the drama and everyone leaving I just can't enjoy it anymore. It just feels wrong.
As for your question OP, I think it's both a thing with getting older and a drop in quality. Stuff that was funny as a teenager isn't so funny years later. Tastes change.

I heard something about him trying something else but it flopped, I'm not sure what it was though. Anyone have the story behind that?
If that's the case it might explain why the videos now aren't as great as they used to be. NC videos now are just the fall back option.

I look at his videos sometimes if it's something that really interests me, but other than that I've followed my favorites to youtube and other sites and don't go to channel awesome so much anymore. The drama surrounding the site kinda turned me off.
