I love the show but I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds this cartoon weirdly sexual for something that's aimed at kids. Nothing explicit of course but you can see it often from the poses and expressions. Something about the subtlety makes me a lil bit uncomfortable, it's like I'm being pulled into a naughty place without anyone giving a proper heads-up.

Kids aren't going to get it. They really won't. Trust me.

This kind of shit? Is literally what made Disney successful.

pls explain

I don't care how children interpret the show??? Shit's making ME uncomfortable because I see how sexual the characters are written. I'm not used to watching cuddly kids' cartoons that explore these themes and it feels out of place.

People probably think it's a weird complaint because "cuddly kids' cartoons" have always had sexual elements.

Thinking of all the hit cartoons from recent years, Adventure Time, MLP, Gumball, Gravity Falls, I have a hard time recalling "sexual elements" from any of them so I don't really see what your point is.

Did you just watch a little of Adventure Time? Because that show is utterly brimming with sexual humor. Most of what Lady Rainicorn says translates to sexual things ("I like it when you bite me." "Jake and I become one all the time.") Jake made two sexy videos for Lady Rainicorn, Breezy is a G-rated metaphor for virginity loss, and there was the whole Jake explaining to Finn the levels of relationship. Also Lumpy Space Princess and Tree Trunks make a lot of suggestive humor. I am honestly amazed at how much they get past the censors with that show.

Now, Gravity Falls has two that I can think of, though I'd argue that one is just people misinterpreting it. There was Dipper running into a bunch of magazines called "fully clothed women" which was an obvious

And one where Mabel went "not as creepy as Dipper's internet history!" A lot of people interpreted this as a porn joke, though given Dipper's personality, I think it actually refers to creepy things like cryptzoology.

Double entendre jokes != characters expressing sexuality in story context

The cartoons I grew up with had it. Rocko's Modern Life had an entire episode revolve around Mrs. Bighead trying to cheat on Mr. Bighead.

As a kid I assumed she was just trying to make more friends and Mr. Bighead was just being grumpy.

And most of the Disney movies have uncensored kissing and even the characters producing babies afterwards. That's pretty sexual.

Anytime I come across someone saying something like this, all I can think about is:

You know? There is sex, but I think the right word is "mature themes." I mean it's not just the physical stuff, but actually deconstructing what would make a relationshp work, some of the other themes of love and abandonment and ptsd and the pain of loss, it's very mature themed for a cartoon aimed at kids. And it's still very much aimed at kids, which is why it's so interesting.

DA

Let me play devil's advocate a bit.
When you were growing up, you were exposed to a reasonable amount of adults in your life, right? They had their grown up moods, and you had your childish ones. Every once in awhile, you and the grown ups saw eye to eye. And you all learned about each other then.

SU is deliberately like that.

All of the discomfort you are talking about just might be because SU reminds you of when you were little, and didn't always understand the adults around you.

(Maybe?)
