Haters

There's an idea floating around that all the named users have dealt with random anon hate. Is that true? Is it really that common?

*Everyone* deals with anon hate, anons included

Anons don't have usernames to follow around and hold grudges against is the only difference

ia but i think that is an important difference

Just look at the hate the anons who don't like spoilers get, or the relentless mocking of the anon who didn't like IP logging. The latter hasn't been active in months, and people still post hysterical piss takes of them. Anons get more hate than named users because it is so much easier to dehumanize them.

I don't think all?

Most of the hate is just really awful (awful as in embarrassing) trolling, though some people got it worse than others.

Just once or twice for me. And no following around.

I had an anon tell me I should kill myself once but I didn't feel like it was personal. It seemed like my comment would have gotten the same reply no matter who said it, unfortunately.

Other than that, I think the worst I've gotten is a tame "fuck off" and not very often at all. People have been really nice to me for as long as I stopped lurking.

Everyone deals with random anon hate, named and unnamed alike.

I don't really know how common it is, but it certainly happens. Any kind of super nasty comments or overt hate turns me off (anon, named, whatever) but sure, it's possible to follow users around and harass them. (It's not as easy with anons because you can never fully know who you're talking to...you can suspect, but you might be wrong. Still, people can be dicks when it isn't warranted and I don't blame anyone for wanting to be anon to avoid that kind of attention.)

I've never felt harassed but I've had a few rude remarks before. If you stick around long enough it's pretty much bound to happen. *shrugs*

I had one waaaaaaaaay back when this community was on LJ who used to post a 50 Hitler salute on every comment I made, but I haven't had one since then.

I think there's a tendency for named users (or at least some named users) to assume that everyone who disagrees with them sharply is their stalker. It smacks of self-importance to me.
