Dreamworks? Really? They have what...HTTYD? And then the rest it pretty terrible.

Prince of Egypt -- I'm not religious but DAMN is it beautiful

The Road to El Dorado

Sinbad

Kung Fu Panda

And, of course, How to Train Your Dragon

ALL of these are better than anything Pixar has ever made IMO

I'd have to disagree except for HTTYD. I own a bunch of Pixar movies, but not one Dreamworks....

I fucking love Prince of Egypt and I'm not religious either. It's just such an amazing and gorgeous movie.

Shrek is kinda big too. Nothing can beat El Dorado though. <3

Shrek 3 is better than Toy Story 3!

*Sarcasm*

Kung Fu Panda is my favorite movie, animation still holds up.

Going to have to +1 Prince of Egypt. That is a very, very good film.

And now I want to re-watch it.

Don't forget Shrek!

I'm not playing the Pixar v. Dreamworks game, just...don't forget Shrek. <3

lol, not really.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
speaking of overrated, HTTYD was the most predictable, boring animated movie I've ever seen, yet everyone talks about it like it's Dreamwork's amazing gem (lol not when Prince of Egypt exists)

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, different strokes, I guess. I loved HTTYD and was 'meh' on Prince of Egypt. Guess there's something to cater to everyone's tastes.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
I just like it for the cat-dragons. (For real, one of the animators stuck a stick on his cat's tail to imitate the reaction of Toothless with his new tail-fin.)

Same here.
I enjoyed it, but at the same time wondered why everyone was complaining about Dragons 2 being formulaic (I saw HTTYD just when the 2 was being realeased), since the first one struck me as very cliché.
lentils: I wouldn't be worth much if I couldn't feel (Default)

I acknowledge that people connected with it, but I really didn't feel much about the first HTTYD at all. I like dragons, but it was kind of a paint-by-numbers boy-and-his-animal story to me. The second one at least did interesting things, although I thought it was kind of uneven writing-wise.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt

that's exactly what I thought! I realize kids' movies generally aren't going to be groundbreaking material but it was SO predictable and similar to a thousand other stories.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
HTTYD gets the brownie points by having Hiccup lose his leg. That is pretty much it, an entire reputation built upon one tiny little bit of Social Justice and subverting the usual hollywood dangerless explosion.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
I know right? Fuck Dreamworks. The only thing they made that I liked was Shrek.
