At least Pixar never made a rapping Will Smith fish movie with Jack Black as a gay shark and Angelina Jolie as a creepy ""sexy"" fish.

Like honestly OP how can you shit on Pixar and put Dreamworks on a pedestal, when Shark Tale exists.

Though, maybe in a move of apology, Black and Jolie both got roles in another DW film down the line that was way better.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Cars and Planes exists and those movies are all downright terrible. I'd rather watch Shark Tale than anything in the Cars universe.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Cars and Planes are pretty awful, but at least the animation and art are decent.
Everyone in Shark Tales looks like a weird half-human and half-fish melted playdough hybrid.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I really didn't mind the animation in Shark Tale much. Cars was definitely the creepier of the two, imo.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Planes wasn't made by Pixar.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
It's still the same francise tho.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Still not Pixar.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Okay yeah but it's still the same francise and it's made in the same style and it was green lighted by pixar so I'm counting it.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
So you're counting a non-Pixar production as Pixar.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's clearly still Pixar, jesus christ shut up.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't say Pixar.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Disney and Pixar are so closely related I don't see why it matters, anyway. Either way it's a crappy franchise.

This is why the Ardman comments up there need to STFU. Cause they are all under Dreamworks, thus Dreamworks films.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I think most people would completely disagree that Disney and Pixar are the same, and would very much consider them distinct houses, in a similar way to Ardman and Dreamworks.

Even if multiple houses are in the same corporate unit, it's still useful - and correct - to think about them as distinct creative units, if that's how they operate, which by all accounts they do.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-04 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
There's a reason why I have a Pixar boxset and not a Disney one.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-04 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Rude.

Right back at'cha.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
...Because I didn't put Dreamworks on a pedestal?

I just think that even though they've made some real stinkers (the aforementioned Shark Tale), they've also made some really, really good films (like The Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado, How to Train Your Dragon).

While for Pixar, at best they're decent (Finding Nemo) while at worst they're awful (Cars). At least IMO.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
Same anon.
It's worth noteing that most big Pixar fans (like me) hate Cars and Planes with a passion, so I don't think it's just you.

I don't hate Dreamworks, I guess it just kinda annoys me how they have the potential to make really good films like Megamind, El Dorado, and HTTYD, but they instead make crap like Shark Tale, Madagascar, and...pretty much everything else.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
AYRT

Yeah, I agree -- it IS disappointing when Dreamworks makes crap like Shark Tale. But I tend to have a very "wait and see" approach with Dreamworks -- I go into it knowing I could come out LOVING or absolutely despising what they produce. I'm less a fan of the company than the individual movies.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
The only balanced and realistic comment in this whole discussion, pretty much. Both have made some stinkers, both are different animation companies. Comparing them is pretty dumb.

The loss of potential with some of Dreamworks' films is a bit more egregious, imo.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
HTTYD was predictable. I liked it, but it was predictable. The quiet nerd who doesn't fit saves the day and gets the girl by being quirky and different, woohoo.

Don't get me started on how much of a clusterfuck 2 was.
