But then again I only tried watching Crystal, and simply found the plot to be too slow. I'll buy some merch, because I do like the style, but the show itself is just not that interesting to me.

The original show is good and a better intro. But if you want a faster plot, read the manga.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-03 03:46 am (UTC)(link)The 90s anime is fairly slow paced and very monster-of-the-week, but imo it's a lot more engaging. Crystal's sort of all over the place as they jump at light speed through the overarching story and as a result the important plot points feel lackluster. All the build-up that lends it emotional weight is lacking.
I went into both series blind last year, and dropped Crystal after a few eps.
