Yeah...I've tried that but...well...there's usually the assumption that we're on "common ground" so to speak and that I'm at least a fan. Plus I've found that when I probe a bit deeper (for example, I asked why people liked Brave's plot when it did the pretty standard rebellious princess thing) it can't help but come across as bashing to a lot of people.

So you want an essay on why a movie you don't like is good? Even if it was the best essay in the world, you would still not like the movie. And that's okay? It's not like you got cancer because you find something boring many do love (with or without a passion). Just watch the movies you like. That's what I do, regardless of what studio they were made by.

I guess I'd say that I'm more baffled by the trend than anything. Not so much the individual movies.

There's this perception that Pixar hasn't never made a bad movie (save Cars franchise). It's a bit like my bafflement at Christopher Nolan's popularity where people will say "He's never made a bad film!" And if you look at his tomatometer, they're right -- the lowest is 56% for Man of Steel. Whereas I have a deep and abiding loathing of his films.

Individually, I get why people might like him. But the popular/media conception of both Pixar and Nolan as "great" moviemakers is what I don't get.

Pixar, for one thing, is an entire company as opposed to a single director like Christopher Nolan.

Also hdu compare them PISTOLS AT DAWN, ANON.

True, true.

I just notice the same sort of "they can (almost) do no wrong" type of reporting/discussion when it comes to them. Especially in the popular press.
