If you can convince people that it is a popular opinion then pretty much everyone will fall into line with it due to peer pressure or popularity by association regardless of the actual reality of the situation. It is kinda like how a few named users on here have convinced people Case is good mod, despite the evidence to the contrary, and how even people who have no reason to expect it to make them some sort of big shot will still brown nose him because they think it makes them a cut above.
